Who is Opportunity Bank?


about us Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited is a member of the Opportunity Transformational Inc (OTI). Started in 1995 as Faulu Uganda owned by Food for the Hungry International (FHI), in 2006 OTI acquired 63%, from FHI and it is the intention of OTI to continue increasing it's % shareholding. It is a leading Ugandan Micro Finance Institution.

In December 2008, Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited acquired a Tier 2 Financial Institutions license from Bank of Uganda to operate as a regulated Credit Institution making Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited effectively a Savings & Loan Organisation offering micro loans, savings and insurance products specializing in transformational lending in urban, peri-urban and rural environments.

Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited is a leading Credit Institution with over 15 years experience targeting the low income but economically active Ugandans with both loan and savings products. Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited acquired a Tier 2 Financial Institutions license from Bank of Uganda to operate as a regulated Credit Institution under the Financial Institutions Act 2004.The acquisition of the license mandates OBUL to receive deposits from the public. Opportunity Bank Ltd, is currently owned by four (4) shareholders; Opportunity Transformational Inc (OTI), Opportunity Canada, Faulu Uganda Trust and Food for the Hungry Association (FHA). The percentage shareholdings stand as follows:

Scope Of Operation

Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited has 19 branches in Uganda, 7 are located in Kampala city and 12 in the upcountry towns of Mbarara, Masaka, Kyenjojo, Nansana, Hoima, Iganga, Mbale, Soroti, Mayuge, Kalagi, Mukono, Gayaza and Mubende. There is ongoing aggressive outreach to rural areas through strategic growth.

Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited is a member of Opportunity International Network, a network of Banks and Microfinance Institutions all over the world. In Africa, Opportunity International operates in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, DR Congo and Ghana.
